The right email cleaner depends on what “clean” means to you. You may want fewer subscriptions, more storage, or simply an inbox that no longer feels overwhelming.
Cleanfox and MailBoom approach those needs differently. Cleanfox promotes subscription cleanup and deletion. MailBoom focuses on clearing your Gmail inbox while keeping your messages available to find again.

Archive, delete, and unsubscribe solve different problems
Archive when you want less clutter without losing the message. MailBoom removes archived mail from your inbox and keeps it available for search and later review. Google explains that archived messages remain under All Mail. How Gmail archiving works.
Delete when you no longer want to retain a message. If your main goal is recovering Gmail storage, archiving alone will not help.
Unsubscribe when you want to stop future messages from a mailing list. That is a separate decision from what to do with messages already in your inbox. Cleanfox advertises both subscription management and removal of older emails; consider which outcome you need before applying changes. See Cleanfox’s description.
What does Cleanfox say about data?
Cleanfox describes commercial-email information supporting market intelligence, datasets, and advertising audience models. Consumer-panel information may be sold or shared, including with data brokers; directly identifiable information is not sold or shared to target the panelist personally. Cleanfox privacy notice.
For Gmail, connection method matters. Google API connections have additional service-use and transfer restrictions and cannot supply data for serving advertisements. The policy excludes Google App Password connections from those restrictions and describes panel opt-out controls. Read sections 4 and 5 of the notice.
MailBoom does not collect or sell your email data. Inbox processing happens on your device, and authorized mail access and changes happen directly with Google. Email content is not sent to MailBoom servers or third-party AI providers. Read our privacy policy.
Choose around your actual inbox
Cleanfox may be a better fit if you need its advertised newsletter-deletion workflow or accounts from several email providers. Its free service is also a practical consideration.
MailBoom is a good fit when you use Gmail on a supported iPhone or iPad and want to preserve your mail. Review senders, decide what stays, and clear the backlog without treating every old message as something to delete.
Before connecting an account, try MailBoom’s sample inbox. Practice reviewing, archiving, and Undo, then decide whether the workflow suits you. AI features depend on device support; you can review and override suggestions before applying changes.
